On July 1st Dr. Fayneese Miller will become Minnesota private institution, Hamline University’s 20th president, 1st African American president and second female president. Miller is no stranger to a college leadership role. Her resume includes:
- Dean of the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont
- Founder of Brown University’s Ethnic Studies Program
- Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown University
Think she is qualified to take over the helm at Hamline?! Um yeah! In an interview with Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, Miller states,
“This is not fulfilling my dream, because I never thought of being a college president, but this is the fulfillment of the dreams of all of those who wondered how far we could go. It is validation of the hard work that we’ve done in higher education over the years. No longer do we have to simply be a part of the institution; we can lead it”
Way to go Dr. Faynees!
